Zenmoney (Дзен-мани) is one of the best-known budget apps, especially for its automatic bank sync. But it isn't for everyone. Some people don't want to connect their bank or create another account. Others want an app built around the iPhone and Apple Watch. If that sounds like you, here's an honest look at how Fineyo compares, what each app does better, and how to switch.
Quick answer: Choose Fineyo if you use an iPhone and want a fast, private expense tracker with no account, no bank login, and deep Apple integration: Siri, Apple Pay automation, widgets, and a full Apple Watch app. Choose Zenmoney if you want transactions pulled from your bank automatically, need Android or a web version, or track debts, loans, and investments in one place.

Why people look for a Zenmoney alternative
Zenmoney is a capable app. People who switch usually want something different, not just something better:
- No account and no bank login. Zenmoney's bank sync needs your bank connected, and your data lives on its servers. Some people would rather keep their finances only on their own devices.
- An app built for the iPhone. Zenmoney runs on many platforms. Fineyo is made only for Apple devices, so it works with Siri, Shortcuts, Apple Pay, widgets, Back Tap, the Action Button, and Apple Watch.
- Less to manage. Bank sync can break when a bank changes its connection, and imported transactions still need checking. Some people prefer logging each expense themselves, because it helps them notice what they spend.
- A one-time purchase. Fineyo Pro is also sold as a lifetime purchase, so you can pay once instead of subscribing.
Privacy and your data
This is the biggest difference between the two apps.
Fineyo has no account, no sign-up, and no server storing your finances. Your transactions stay on your iPhone and, if you turn on sync, in your own iCloud. Fineyo can't see your financial data. Fineyo AI and the notification automation run on your iPhone with Apple Intelligence, so nothing you say or receive is sent to Fineyo. See how Fineyo handles your data.
Zenmoney needs an account and keeps your data on its servers, which is what makes its bank sync, web version, and multi-device access work. Bank connections are read-only and, in Europe and the UK, run through GoCardless, a PSD2-certified partner, so Zenmoney never sees your bank password. Its App Store privacy label lists financial info, email address, and user ID as data linked to you.
Neither approach is wrong. Zenmoney trades some privacy for automation. Fineyo keeps everything with you, so you add transactions yourself or let your iPhone do it.
Adding transactions
Zenmoney is built around bank sync. Connect your accounts and transactions arrive on their own, sorted into categories. On Android it can also read bank SMS messages, and in some countries it scans receipt QR codes.
Fineyo has no bank sync, so it makes logging as fast as possible instead:
- Manual entry in seconds. A minimal flow for expenses, income, and transfers.
- Apple Pay automation. A Shortcuts automation logs every tap-to-pay purchase. See Apple Pay automation.
- Bank notification automation. Fineyo reads payment notifications from your bank app on your iPhone, so it also catches online and card payments.
- Voice with Fineyo AI. Say "Coffee 4.50 today" and it becomes a transaction. See voice input.
- Siri and Shortcuts. Log an expense without opening the app. See Siri and Shortcuts.
- Back Tap, the Action Button, and Control Center. See Quick add.
- Apple Watch. Log from your wrist, even when your iPhone isn't nearby.
If you want every bank transaction imported without lifting a finger, Zenmoney does that better. If you want logging that's quick and stays on your phone, Fineyo is built for it.
Budgets and planning
Zenmoney plans month by month. You set category limits, add regular payments, and it shows how much "free money" is left, with spending forecasts based on your history and a calendar of upcoming bills. Paid users also get an AI assistant that answers questions about their finances and builds charts.
Fineyo lets you set an overall budget or one per category for a day, week, month, year, or trip. You see your progress live, how much you can still spend each day, and past periods. Recurring payments like rent and subscriptions log themselves, with a reminder the day before. Insights compare months, break down categories, and project your spending. A monthly report sums up where your money went. See budgets and recurring transactions.
Zenmoney goes further if you also track debts, loans, deposits, investments, or crypto. Fineyo focuses on spending, income, and budgets.
Sharing with a partner or family
Zenmoney offers family users. The main account holder adds people from Settings, each with their own login, and one subscription covers everyone. Accounts can be shared or kept personal.
Fineyo uses Spaces. Create a shared space for your household, partner, or a trip, and invite anyone with a link over iCloud. Everyone sees and edits the same accounts, budgets, and transactions, and you can see who spent what. You can have several spaces, like one for home and one for a holiday. Creating a space needs Fineyo Pro, but people who join don't need it.
Currencies and travel
Both apps support accounts in different currencies. Fineyo supports 80+ currencies, with daily exchange rate updates and a travel currency on Pro, for trips, so new expenses default to the local currency while your totals stay in your main one. See currencies and travel.
Apple Watch, widgets, and Siri
This is where Fineyo stands out on Apple devices:
- Apple Watch app with spending, budgets, balances, and logging from your wrist, plus complications for your watch face.
- Widgets for the Home Screen, Lock Screen, and Control Center. See widgets.
- Ask Siri how much you spent this week or what's left in a budget. See Ask Siri.
Zenmoney doesn't list an Apple Watch app on the App Store.
Platforms
Zenmoney works on iPhone, Android, and the web, and runs on Macs with Apple silicon. If you use Android or want to manage your budget in a browser, it's the clear choice.
Fineyo is for iPhone and Apple Watch. iPad and Mac versions are coming soon. It works offline, and syncs over iCloud when you're back online. See offline use.
Pricing
Both apps are free to start.
Zenmoney's free plan covers manual tracking. Bank sync, detailed reports, and spending plans need the paid plan. In the US App Store it costs $3.49 a month or $19.99 a year, with one-time options too, and new users get a two-week trial.
Fineyo's free plan includes 1 account, 1 budget, up to 10 categories, and 3 recurring transactions. Siri and Shortcuts logging, the Apple Pay and bank notification automations, CSV import, and multiple currencies are free for everyone. Fineyo Pro removes the limits and adds Spaces, the spending map, receipt photos, all widgets, the full Apple Watch app, iCloud backup, and CSV export. In the US App Store it costs $3.99 a month, $24.99 a year, or $44.99 once for lifetime access, and works with Family Sharing. See Fineyo Pro.
Zenmoney's yearly plan costs less. Fineyo's lifetime purchase costs less than two years of Fineyo's yearly plan, and you never pay again.
Where Zenmoney is the better choice
Fineyo isn't the right app for everyone. Zenmoney is a better fit if you:
- Want transactions imported automatically from your bank.
- Use Android, or want a web version.
- Track debts, loans, deposits, investments, or crypto alongside spending.
- Want an AI assistant that answers questions about your finances.
Who should choose Fineyo
Fineyo is a better fit if you:
- Use an iPhone, and maybe an Apple Watch.
- Don't want to create an account or connect your bank.
- Want to log spending in seconds with a tap, your voice, Siri, or Apple Pay.
- Share a budget with a partner, family, or travel group.
- Spend in several currencies, for travel or living abroad.
- Prefer paying once over a subscription.
How to switch from Zenmoney to Fineyo
You can bring your history with you. It takes about 15 minutes.
- Export from Zenmoney. Use Zenmoney's export option, available in its web version, to download your transactions as a CSV file.
- Combine income and expenses into one column. Zenmoney's export puts expenses and income in separate columns, usually named
outcomeandincome. Fineyo needs one Amount column, with expenses as negative numbers. Open the file in Numbers, Excel, or Google Sheets and add an Amount column that equalsincomeminusoutcome. - Pick the account. Add an Account column that uses
outcomeAccountNamefor expenses andincomeAccountNamefor income. - Export the sheet as CSV.
- Import into Fineyo. In Fineyo, go to Settings → Import data, select the file, match Date, Category (
categoryName), Description (comment), Amount, Account, and Payee (payee), then tap Validate and Import.
A few things to know:
- Transfers between your own accounts come in as plain income or expenses. You may want to remove them before importing.
- Recurring payments come in as one-off transactions. Set them up again in Fineyo.
- Categories, accounts, and payees that don't exist yet are created for you.
The import guide explains every column, date formats, foreign currencies, and fixes for common errors.
