Fineyo keeps your totals, budgets, and charts in one main currency, but you can record any transaction in another currency. Each one keeps its own exchange rate, so you always know what you paid and what it cost in your own money.
Multiple currencies and exchange rates are free. Fineyo Pro adds a travel currency and daily automatic rate updates.
Set your main currency
- Go to Settings → Main currency.
- Search for or pick your currency.
Your main currency is used for totals, budgets, reports, widgets, and Siri answers.
Pick it once and keep it. Changing your main currency later doesn't convert your amounts. A 50 EUR transaction becomes 50 USD if you switch from EUR to USD. To record spending in another currency, change the currency on individual transactions instead.
Add a transaction in another currency
- Start a new transaction.
- Tap Currency and pick the currency you paid in.
- Enter the amount in that currency.
- Fineyo fills in the exchange rate and shows the amount in your main currency.
- Did your bank charge a different amount? Change the converted amount, and Fineyo works out the rate for you.
The rate is saved with the transaction, so later rate updates don't change your history.
Reading the rate: it's how many units of the foreign currency equal 1 unit of your main currency. With EUR as your main currency, a USD rate of 1.16 means 1 EUR = 1.16 USD, so 11.60 USD shows as 10.00 EUR.
Travelling? Set a travel currency
Instead of changing the currency on every transaction during a trip, set a travel currency (Fineyo Pro):
- Go to Settings → Travel currency.
- Pick the local currency.
New transactions now start in that currency, including those you add with Siri, Fineyo AI, and your Apple Watch. They're still converted to your main currency in totals.
When you're home, go to Settings → Travel currency and choose None.
Tip: Pair your travel currency with a Single cycle budget for the dates of your trip.
Exchange rates
Settings → Exchange rates shows the current rate for each currency against your main currency.
- Auto update downloads fresh rates when you open Fineyo, at most once a day. It's part of Fineyo Pro, and on by default for Pro users.
- Update Now downloads the latest rates right away, once every 24 hours. It's free.
Fineyo also downloads rates once when you first set up a main currency, so you always start with current rates.
- Your own rate: tap a currency, enter a rate, and tap Save.
Downloaded rates are reference rates, not the exact rate your bank or card charged.
Keeping your own rates: an update replaces the rates you entered by hand. To keep them, turn off Auto update.
If a currency shows 1.0000, it has no rate yet. Enter one before using that currency.
Accounts in other currencies
An account can have its own currency, like a USD card when your main currency is EUR. Go to Settings → Accounts, open or add an account, and pick its Currency.
The account's balance is shown in its own currency, and new transactions on it start in that currency (unless a travel currency is set).
Show or hide cents
Settings → Display cents turns decimals on or off across the app. It only changes how amounts look. Fineyo keeps the exact values.
Free vs Fineyo Pro
- Free: multiple currencies, accounts in other currencies, your own rates, and Update Now.
- Fineyo Pro: also Travel currency and Auto update for exchange rates.
If Fineyo Pro ends, your travel currency shows as None and rates stop updating on their own. Your travel currency comes back if you subscribe again.
Good to know
- In a shared space, the main currency, travel currency, and exchange rates are the same for every member.
- Currency settings are included in iCloud backups.
- You can import a CSV with foreign-currency transactions and their own rates.
Troubleshooting
Choosing a travel currency opens the Fineyo Pro screen. Travel currency is part of Fineyo Pro. On the free plan, change the currency on each transaction instead.
My rates are out of date. On the free plan, rates don't update on their own. Go to Settings → Exchange rates and tap Update Now.
Update Now is greyed out. Rates can be updated once every 24 hours. Try again tomorrow.
My custom rate keeps changing back. Auto update is replacing it. Turn it off in Settings → Exchange rates.
A foreign transaction shows the wrong amount. Open the transaction and check its exchange rate. Changing rates in Settings doesn't affect transactions you've already saved.
My totals look wrong after changing my main currency. Amounts aren't converted when you change your main currency. Switch back, or edit the affected transactions.
