Share a budget with your partner or family

Use Spaces to share accounts, budgets, and transactions with a partner, family, or roommates over iCloud, with no extra accounts or servers.

Money is easier to manage together. With Spaces, you can share a budget with a partner, your family, or roommates, and everyone sees the same accounts, transactions, and budgets in real time.

Sharing runs on Apple's iCloud sharing, the same technology behind shared Notes and Reminders. There are no Fineyo accounts to create and no Fineyo servers holding your data.

Looking to share your Fineyo Pro subscription instead? That's Apple's Family Sharing, which shares the purchase but not data. See Fineyo Pro and Family Sharing.

What is a space?

A space is a separate set of finances: its own accounts, transactions, budgets, categories, and tags. Nothing from one space shows up in another.

  • Personal is the space everyone starts with. It's private until you share it. You can rename it, but never delete it.
  • You can create more spaces, like "Home" for shared bills or "Trip to Italy", and keep them to yourself or share them.

Which way should I share?

  1. Create a new space for sharing (recommended for most couples). Your Personal space stays private, and the new space holds only what you share.
  2. Share your Personal space. Your existing data becomes shared as it is.

What you need

  • Fineyo Pro to create or share a space. Joining a space is free.
  • An iPhone signed in to iCloud, with Fineyo installed, for everyone.
  • An internet connection to send the first invite.

Create a space

  1. Go to Settings → Spaces.
  2. Tap +.
  3. Enter a name and tap Create.

Invite someone

  1. In Settings → Spaces, tap the space you want to share so it's selected.
  2. Tap Manage Sharing (or the Share button at the top).
  3. Send the invite with Messages, Mail, AirDrop, or a copied link.

The person you invite taps the link, sees Join space? with the space name, and confirms. Fineyo then syncs the space's data, which can take a little while for a large space.

Later, Manage Sharing opens Apple's iCloud sharing screen, where you can see who's in the space, add or remove people, or stop sharing.

Before you invite someone: everyone in a space can see, add, edit, and delete anything in it, and can invite others. There's no view-only mode, so only share with people you trust with your money.

Switch between spaces

  • Quick switch: press and hold the Overview tab at the bottom of the screen. Tap a space to switch. (This appears once you have more than one space.)
  • From Settings: go to Settings → Spaces and tap a space.

Widgets, Siri, and your Apple Watch always show the space you have open.

See who spent what

  • Members card. In a shared space, Overview shows how much each person spent or earned. Tap a person to see their transactions.
  • Member avatars. Each transaction shows who added it. Turn this on or off in Settings → Appearance → Show member avatars.
  • Created by. Open a transaction to see who added it.

How syncing works

  • Changes from other members show up within moments while the space is open in Fineyo.
  • Offline? Your changes are saved on your iPhone and sync automatically when you're back online. Nothing is lost.
  • The space you have open is the one that syncs right away. Switching to a space brings it up to date.
  • Low Power Mode pauses syncing to save battery. Tap Sync Now when you see the pause, or turn off Low Power Sync Pause under Settings → Spaces → Battery.
  • Settings → Spaces → Sync Status shows your network, iCloud account, and when the space last uploaded and downloaded.

Shared settings

These settings belong to the space, so every member sees the same: main currency, travel currency, exchange rates, and excluded categories. Everything else, like theme, app icon, notifications, and Face ID, is set on each device.

Travel currency and excluded categories are Fineyo Pro features, so they apply on a member's iPhone only when that member has Fineyo Pro.

Who pays for what: Fineyo Pro and spaces

  • The space's limits follow its owner's plan. If the owner has Fineyo Pro, everyone in the space can add unlimited accounts, budgets, categories, and recurring transactions there, and attach receipt photos, even members on the free plan.
  • Every other Pro feature follows each member's own plan: the spending map, top category and budget charts, past budget periods, older monthly reports, Pro widgets, travel currency, excluded categories, Auto-location, automatic exchange rates, advanced filters, and asking Siri about your money. A free member sees these locked, even in a Pro owner's space.
  • There's no limit on the number of members or spaces.
  • If the owner's Pro ends, the space pauses syncing for everyone until they renew. Nothing is deleted.

Leave, remove, or delete

ActionWho can do itWhat happens
Leave SpaceA memberThe space is removed from your device. It stays intact for everyone else.
Remove a memberThe owner, from Manage SharingThat person loses access and is switched back to their Personal space.
Delete SpaceThe ownerThe space is removed for everyone.
Stop SharingThe ownerEveryone else loses access. Your data stays on your devices.

To leave or delete a space, swipe left on it in Settings → Spaces. Any member can rename a space, and everyone sees the new name after syncing.

Your data and safety

  • Shared data lives on each member's device and in the space owner's iCloud. It moves only between members' devices and Apple's iCloud.
  • If the owner's iCloud storage is full, the space stops syncing until they free up room. Data already on each device isn't affected.
  • Pre-sharing backup. The first time you share or join a space, Fineyo saves a private copy of your data on your device. If sharing ever causes a real problem, you can restore it from Settings → Spaces → Danger Zone → Restore Pre-Sharing Backup. This replaces your current data, deletes spaces you own for everyone, and leaves spaces you joined. It can't be undone, so treat it as a last resort.

Troubleshooting

"Creating and sharing spaces requires Premium." Creating or sharing a space needs Fineyo Pro. If your partner has Pro, they can create the space and invite you for free.

"You need to be online to create a space" or "Could not open sharing." Connect to the internet and try again. The first invite needs a connection.

"iCloud is unavailable." Check that you're signed in to iCloud in your iPhone's Settings. The iCloud Account row in Settings → Spaces → Sync Status shows your status.

"iCloud storage is full." The space owner needs to free up iCloud storage. Syncing continues after that.

"Temporary sync issue." A short-lived problem with iCloud, not your device or account. Try again a bit later.

My partner's changes aren't showing up. Open the space in Fineyo, then check Sync Status in Settings → Spaces. If it says Sync paused, the owner's Fineyo Pro has ended. If it mentions Low Power Mode, tap Sync Now.

"Could not join space." Make sure you're signed in to iCloud and online, then open the invite link again.

I see duplicate transactions after sharing my Personal space. This can briefly happen if you use Fineyo on two of your own devices and one was offline when you shared. Let both devices finish syncing. If duplicates stay, contact us at info@fineyo.app.

Every expense. Sorted in seconds.
