iCloud sync, backups, and privacy

How Fineyo keeps your finances private on your iPhone and in your own iCloud, how backups and sync work, and how to fix sync problems.

Fineyo is built to keep your finances private. There's no Fineyo account, no bank login, and no Fineyo server holding your data. Everything stays on your iPhone and in your own iCloud.

Who can see your data?

For the full picture, including what the app does and doesn't send, see Is my data secure?

  • Only you. Your data lives on your device and in your private iCloud storage. Fineyo doesn't upload your finances to its own servers and never sells your data.
  • No bank connection. You add transactions yourself, by voice, or with Shortcuts automations. You never hand over a bank password.
  • Fineyo AI runs on your iPhone. Voice input uses Apple Intelligence on your device. What you say is never sent to Fineyo.
  • Shared spaces use Apple's iCloud sharing. Shared data moves only between members' devices and Apple's iCloud, and is stored in the space owner's iCloud.

How your data gets to other devices

Fineyo uses iCloud in two ways:

iCloud backup. With iCloud backup on, Fineyo saves a full copy of your data to your iCloud Drive each time you open the app. When you set up Fineyo on a new iPhone with the same Apple Account, it finds your latest backup and restores it. iCloud backup needs Fineyo Pro.

Live sync for shared spaces. Spaces you share or join sync live through iCloud on every device. Changes from you or other members show up within moments.

Turn on iCloud backup

  1. Go to Settings → iCloud backup.
  2. Turn on Enable iCloud backup.
  3. Tap Backup now to make your first backup right away.

Fineyo keeps one backup per day and your 10 most recent ones. Receipts and photos attached to transactions are included. See Export and back up your data for details.

Set up a new iPhone

  1. Sign in with the same Apple Account and make sure iCloud Drive is on.
  2. Install and open Fineyo. Your Fineyo Pro is usually recognized automatically; if not, tap Restore on the Fineyo Pro screen.
  3. Fineyo restores your latest backup during setup.
  4. If it didn't, go to Settings → iCloud backup, tap a backup under Recent backups, and choose Import.
  5. Shared spaces download from iCloud by themselves.

Tip: Before switching phones, open Fineyo on the old one and tap Backup now, so the backup includes your latest transactions.

Good to know

  • Restoring replaces everything. Your current data on that device is replaced by the backup.
  • Shared spaces aren't part of backups. They always download fresh from iCloud, so you get their latest version.
  • If Fineyo Pro ends, new backups stop. Existing backups stay in your iCloud Drive.
  • Offline is fine. Changes you make offline are saved on your device and sync once you're back online.

Troubleshooting

"iCloud is not set up. Please make sure iCloud Drive is enabled." Open your iPhone's Settings, tap your name, then iCloud, and turn on iCloud Drive. Then turn on iCloud backup in Fineyo again.

"iCloud storage is full." Free up space or get more iCloud storage, then tap Backup now. For a shared space, it's the owner's storage that counts.

My new iPhone started empty. Check that you're using the same Apple Account, that iCloud Drive is on, and that Fineyo Pro is active (tap Restore on the Pro screen if needed). Then restore from Settings → iCloud backup → Recent backups.

A shared space looks out of date. Go to Settings → Spaces and check Sync Status:

  • Network should say an internet connection is available.
  • iCloud Account should say you're signed in. Tap the row to open Settings if not.
  • Sync Paused (Low Power Mode): tap Sync Now.
  • Sync paused: the space owner's Fineyo Pro has ended. Syncing resumes once they renew.
  • Temporary sync issue: a short-lived iCloud problem. Try again later.

Every expense. Sorted in seconds.
