Track Apple Pay and bank payments automatically

Set up Shortcuts automations so Fineyo logs every Apple Pay purchase and bank payment notification for you, automatically.

Fineyo can log your purchases by itself. Set up an automation once, and every coffee and grocery run lands in Fineyo without you typing a thing.

There are two automations to choose from, and you can use both:

Apple Pay automationBank notification automation
Runs whenYou tap to pay with Apple PayYour bank app sends a payment notification
Catches online paymentsNoYes
NeedsiOS 18 or lateriOS 27 or later and Apple Intelligence

Both are free and don't need Fineyo Pro. With Fineyo Pro, they can also save where you paid.

Set up the Apple Pay automation

  1. In Fineyo, go to Settings → Shortcuts and open the Apple Pay tab.
  2. Under Setup, tap Add Shortcut and add it to your library.
  3. Open the Shortcuts app, go to Library → Automation, and turn on "Fineyo - Apple Pay".

That's it. Each time you tap to pay with your iPhone or Apple Watch, Fineyo logs the amount, card, and merchant.

Tips

  • Unlock your iPhone before paying so the automation can run.
  • Want purchases to go into a specific category or account? Open the shortcut and set them there. Or leave them as Unassigned and None and sort transactions later in Fineyo.
  • Have several cards? Add a separate automation for each card, so each one can go to its own account.

Set up the bank notification automation

This one reads payment notifications from your bank app, so it also catches online shopping, in-app purchases, and card payments made without Apple Pay.

Before you start

  • Your iPhone needs iOS 27 or later and must support Apple Intelligence.
  • Apple Intelligence must be turned on in Settings → Apple Intelligence & Siri and finished downloading.
  • Your bank app's notifications must be on, with previews shown.

Setup

  1. In Fineyo, go to Settings → Shortcuts and open the Notifications tab. Under About, check that Apple Intelligence is ready.
  2. Under Setup, tap Add Shortcut to add "Fineyo - Notification".
  3. Open the Shortcuts app, go to Automation, tap +, and choose Notification.
  4. Pick your bank app.
  5. Choose the "Fineyo - Notification" shortcut and set it to Run Immediately.

Using more than one bank? Add an automation for each bank app.

How it reads your notifications

  • Apple Intelligence picks out the amount, currency, and merchant on your iPhone. Nothing is sent anywhere.
  • The merchant is saved as the transaction note.
  • Money coming in, like a refund or salary, is saved as income. Everything else is saved as an expense.
  • Notifications that aren't payments (balance updates, declined payments, security codes, promotions) are skipped quietly.
  • The amount always comes from the notification itself, never your balance or credit limit.

Currencies

  • Fineyo only uses a currency that's written in the notification, like "€", "EUR", or "12.00 USD". It never guesses.
  • With no currency in the notification, Fineyo uses your travel currency if you've set one, or your main currency.
  • For a foreign currency, Fineyo needs an exchange rate. If there isn't one, the payment isn't saved and you'll see an error, so nothing is logged in the wrong currency.

Add where you paid

With Fineyo Pro, automated payments can save your location, so they show up on your spending map.

  1. In Fineyo, go to Settings → Shortcuts.
  2. Turn on Add location and allow location access.

Fineyo takes your location when the payment is logged, and saves the place name with it. If it can't get a location within a few seconds, the payment is saved without one. The Add expense and other Shortcuts actions never add a location.

Good to know

  • Transactions are saved with today's date to the space that's open in Fineyo.
  • For bank notifications, the category you choose in the shortcut applies to expenses only.
  • Check your first few automatic transactions to make sure the amounts and merchants look right.
  • Prefer to build it yourself? Add Fineyo's Log bank notification or Add expense action to any shortcut. See Add expenses with Siri and Shortcuts.

Troubleshooting

The Add Shortcut button is greyed out. Your iPhone needs a newer iOS: iOS 18 for Apple Pay, iOS 27 for bank notifications. Bank notifications also need an iPhone that supports Apple Intelligence.

Nothing gets logged.

  • In the Shortcuts app, check that the automation is on and set to Run Immediately.
  • For Apple Pay, make sure you paid by tapping your iPhone or Apple Watch, not online.
  • For bank notifications, make sure notifications from the bank app are on, with previews shown.

"Apple Intelligence is still getting ready." The on-device model is still downloading. Leave your iPhone on Wi-Fi and charging for a while. If this message appears only now and then, the next notification usually works.

"Apple Intelligence doesn't support the language of this notification." If your bank app allows it, switch its notifications to a supported language.

"Couldn't read the amount from the notification." The notification didn't show a clear amount. Add that payment by hand.

"Fineyo has no exchange rate for…" Add a rate for that currency under Settings → Exchange rates, then add the missed payment by hand.

"Couldn't save the transaction." Open Fineyo once and try again. This can happen right after an update, or before your iPhone has been unlocked after a restart.

Every expense. Sorted in seconds.
