Add expenses with Siri and Shortcuts

Log an expense or income in Fineyo with Siri, Spotlight, or your own shortcut, without opening the app. Free on every plan.

Fineyo works with Siri and the Shortcuts app, so you can log spending the moment it happens. Say a phrase, search in Spotlight, or build a shortcut that asks only for the amount.

You'll need: iOS 16 or later, and Fineyo opened at least once. It works on the free plan.

Log a transaction with Siri

There's nothing to set up. Say one of these:

To addSay
An expense"Add expense to Fineyo" or "New Fineyo expense"
An income"Add income to Fineyo" or "New Fineyo income"
Either"Add transaction to Fineyo" or "New Fineyo transaction"

Siri then asks for the details one at a time:

  • Amount: always needed.
  • Category: pick one from your list. If you said "Add transaction", the category decides whether it's an expense or income; otherwise Siri asks for the type.
  • Account: pick one, or choose None.
  • Note: optional. Leave it empty to skip.

The transaction is saved with today's date in the space you have open in Fineyo. If you picked an account, its balance updates too.

To see every phrase Fineyo understands, open Settings → Siri in the app.

Run Fineyo from Spotlight

Swipe down on the Home Screen and type "Fineyo" or "expense". The Fineyo actions appear in the results, and you can run them right there.

Build your own shortcut

A custom shortcut lets you skip questions you always answer the same way.

  1. Open the Shortcuts app and tap +.
  2. Search for Fineyo and add Add expense, Add income, or Add transaction.
  3. Fill in anything you want fixed, like the category or account. Whatever you leave empty is asked when the shortcut runs.
  4. Tap Done.

Tip: Make a few one-tap shortcuts, like "Coffee" set to your Food category and debit card. Each one then only asks for the amount.

Run your shortcut by saying its name to Siri, or add it to the Home Screen, Control Center, the Action Button or Back Tap. Fineyo also has ready-made Apple Pay and bank notification automations under Settings → Shortcuts.

Good to know

  • Currency. If you've set a travel currency, Siri uses it and converts the amount to your main currency. Otherwise it uses your main currency.
  • Hidden categories aren't offered. If you hide Unassigned, Siri will always ask for a category.
  • Shared spaces. The transaction goes to whichever space is open in Fineyo, and syncs to the other members as usual.
  • Daily summary. Transactions you add with Siri count toward that day's daily summary notification.
  • Language. Siri listens in the language set in your iPhone's Settings → Apple Intelligence & Siri, not Fineyo's language. Fineyo's phrases are available in many languages, including German, French, Spanish, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Chinese, Polish, Russian, and Ukrainian.

Troubleshooting

Siri opens something else or says it can't help. Make sure you say "Fineyo" as part of the phrase, in Siri's language. After installing or updating Fineyo, open it once so iOS picks up the phrases.

"Couldn't save the transaction." Open Fineyo once and try again. This can happen right after an App Store update, or if your iPhone hasn't been unlocked since it restarted. If your shortcut uses an account from another space, switch to that space or pick a different account.

My category or account isn't in the list. Siri shows the categories and accounts of the space that's open in Fineyo. Hidden categories are left out on purpose.

Every expense. Sorted in seconds.
