A budget sets a spending limit and shows how much is left as you go, including how much you can spend per day to stay on track. Make one budget for all your spending, or separate ones for things like groceries or eating out.
Create a budget
- Open the Budgets tab and tap +.
- Enter the amount. Fineyo shows roughly what that means per day.
- Choose a Budget type:
- Overall: covers all your expenses.
- Category: covers only the categories you pick. Tap Category to choose one or more.
- Optionally give it a Name.
- Choose a Cycle: Daily, Weekly, Monthly, Annual, or Single cycle.
- Choose Starting on, the day each period begins. Paid on the 25th? A monthly budget starting on the 25th runs from the 25th to the 24th.
- For a Single cycle budget, choose the From and To dates. Perfect for a trip or a one-off project.
- For category budgets, turn on Include sub categories if subcategories should count too.
- Tap Save.
Keep an eye on your budgets
The Budgets tab shows every budget with what's Left (or how much you're Over budget), how much you can spend per day for the rest of the period, and when it ends. A total across all budgets sits at the top.
Tap a budget to see:
- What you've spent and what's left
- Your daily average, and where you're likely to end up at the current pace
- A comparison with the previous period
- Charts of your spending pace, categories, and recent trends
- Every transaction that counts toward it
Use the arrows to look back at previous periods.
Managing budgets: touch and hold a budget to edit or delete it, or tap Edit on the Budgets tab to reorder them.
Check budgets without opening Fineyo
- Widgets: add the Budget widget to your Home Screen, or a budget widget to your Lock Screen with Fineyo Pro. See widgets.
- Apple Watch: add the Budget complication to your watch face. See complications.
- Siri: ask "How are my Fineyo budgets?" or "How much is left in my Groceries budget in Fineyo?" See Ask Siri.
What counts toward a budget
- Only expenses count. Income and transfers don't.
- Transactions marked Exclude from analytics don't count, unless you turn on Count excluded transactions for that budget.
- Upcoming recurring transactions count once their day arrives.
- Transactions in other currencies are converted to your main currency.
- There's no rollover. Each period starts fresh.
Free vs Fineyo Pro
The free plan includes 1 budget. Fineyo Pro unlocks unlimited budgets, browsing previous periods, and the detailed charts. In a shared space, the owner's plan sets how many budgets the space can have. Past periods and charts follow your own plan.
Budgets are shared with everyone in a shared space, and monthly budgets also appear in your monthly report.
Troubleshooting
I can't add another budget. The free plan includes 1 budget. Upgrade to Fineyo Pro, or edit your existing one.
A transaction doesn't count toward my budget. Check that it's an expense, dated within the current period, in one of the budget's categories (with Include sub categories on if it's a subcategory), and not excluded from analytics.
My budget starts on the wrong day. Edit the budget and change Starting on. Weekly budgets follow your First day of week setting by default.
